Furniture Upcycle

I recently refinished a dresser for a friend of mine. She had a brown dresser and wanted to "perk" it up a bit so I painted the outside a creamy yellow color and the drawer fronts a burnt orange color. Once the paint was dry I took the sander to it and distressed it a bit. The color was not vintage enough for me so I took some brown paint and rubbed it over it to give it more depth. Once the paint was dry I glued vintage music sheets to the top and outside. I put poly all over the piece to finish it up. I love it and more importantly my friend loves her new dresser too!! Thanks Lynn for giving me a fun new project, keep'm comin!!

Shells Galore!

This summer we too a trip to visit our cousins in Clearwater, FL. It was so much fun with the boys getting to spend time with their cousins like we used to when we were kids, building tents with blankets and sheets over the dining room table. Having their secret fort made everything so exciting, from eating meals under there and briefly spending the night under there (although that didn't last as it got "too scary!")

We spend a few days on the beach and there were a few seashells but finally, on our last overcast day we took the boat out to Caladesi Island and found tons of amazing seashells. The boys cast their nets and found many live creatures, fish, starfish, crabs. It was the best day at the beach ever!

Since I had hit the mother load of seashells and had no time to clean them all properly before we went home, I had to figure out a way to take them home without us passing out from the stench of a rotting, fishy smell because a seven hour trip home in the middle of summer closed up in the car would surely be a recipe for disaster. So I double sealed them in black trash bags and took my precious shells home (I had 3 garbage bags FULL!). It worked the ride home was successful and I moved on to properly cleaning them. I rinsed them in bleach water and layed them out on the back deck to dry for about a week (the cat was so curious about it all and was very perplexed why there was this scrumptious fish smell without anything to taste).

So, from the story you can tell that was about 6 months ago and I have just gotten around to doing something with all those shells.

I started by sorting them into types of shells (oh my aching back!)

Then I took this bust I had gotten a couple years ago that was covered in these ugly corn husks and began gluing. Oh the wonderful things a hot glue gun can do!! It took several days but it is finally finished and I LOVE it!!

Although this took alot of shells I have plenty left, what do you think I should do next? I am thinking furniture or something big and bold, let me know what you think!

MULE CAMP MARKET FESTIVAL

DOWNTOWN GAINESVILLE, GA

OCTOBER 7TH, 8TH - 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

The City of Gainesville or Mule Camp Springs as it was once known, hosts this rich Appalachian festival at the foothills of North Georgia Mountains.  This festival showcases various mountain arts and crafts. The family can enjoy mule rides, live music and great food, while the kids enjoy the petting zoo and many other activities.

The City of Gainesville and Hall County welcomed the world in 1996 as a host of the Centennial Olympic Games. Lake Lanier was the site of the Kayak and Towing events, and our area became known as the "Hospitality Capital of the World". Once again, the community and the Gainesville Jaycees wish to show you our hospitality by inviting you to the 2011 Mule Camp Market Festival on the Downtown Square in Gainesville, Georgia.

Busy Working

We have a month until we are doing a big arts and crafts show in Gainesville, Georgia. So we have been very busy making new products for everyone to see and enjoy and buy at the show. We will have everything from furniture, home decor, outdoor decorations and jewelry. So please stay tuned to the dates and times of the show so you can come see us and our newest creations!

Curtain Redo

I took some simple stock curtains from Target and added a ruffle to the edge to give it a little extra touch. I have added just plain fringe to stock curtains before but I wanted to do something different this time.

So, I bought an extra panel and cut it in 5" strips, ran a basting stitch down one edge and pulled the end of the string to create a ruffle.  Once I had all my strips pulled into a ruffle, I sewed them on to the edge of the curtain panels and left the raw edge fringed a bit. I love the texture it adds to the curtains without adding more color. I am sure you could try this with any color curtain at your local "Big Box" store. And if I can do it I know you can too, it is simple!!

This is a picture of my summer look for the mantel, although I have added more shells as the summer has continued and we have collected more from the beach. I love this look and hate for the summer to end, but will keep you posted when I change to my fall look.

Country Living Favorites

There were so many beautiful artists and shops at the Country Living Festival it is hard to list all of the wonderful things I saw. But I would like to share with you some of my favorites.

One of the largest tents was Earth Angels. It was filled with many different "real" artists and many of the most fabulous displays and wares, from paintings, jewelry, felted softies, handbags and more. This is a great website to find wonderfully beautiful things to crave and awe over.

Earth Angels

This is an Artist at the show that can also be found on the Earth Angels website. Her booth was amazing, full of beautifully whimsical things. Her watercolor paintings of the most adorable faces on children and animals along with her color palate being so dreamy. I was in awe at all her ideas she had lots of cardboard cutouts and recycled papers, fabrics and things it was right up my alley and probably my most favorite at the entire show, she was a true artist!

One artist had beautiful collages made with shredded pattern pages and shaped into 40's or 50's style dresses. They were absolutely adorable I love, love, loved them!

One Girl



Country Living Festival

I had the best time with my sister and mom this weekend. The Country Living Festival at Stone Mountain Park was a dream full of great artists, ideas and beautiful vintage finds. I was in heaven with all the spectacular finds in one place. We took two days browsing through every booth and drooling over all the pretty things. The prices were very reasonable, hence, I bought lots of great things, a few things for me and plenty of things I will incorporate into some of the jewelry and items I am making to sell. I have gotten lots of new ideas and am anxious to get started on creating, nothing like seeing and talking to new artists to get the juices flowing!

Aunt Laurel is such a good sport taking the kids to the pumpkin patch and petting zoo up the street, they enjoy their visits from Aunt Laurel and are always anxious for the next visit.

October is almost over and has gone by so quickly. We have had a busy, fun month!

The Mule Camp in Gainesville was a real success!





Such Sweet Stitches

This is an adorable sampler of stitches I found Here. I think it is such a cute idea, my wheels are turning to do something with this idea. Maybe I could do one in a calendar format, or just add some hints of it on a pillow.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Adorable Painting

This Painting is so adorable I had to share it with you all!

The "OCD"/"ADD" Staircase look

OK so for those of you who are a tad OCD and like to count your steps as you walk, but also have a touch of ADD and are easily distracted and not sure what number you left off at, this is a perfect sollution. This is such a cute idea for a staircase. If I didnt have old license plates on the back of mine I would totally do this. Anyhone up for the challenge????

A Surprise Inside

I wanted a little extra pizzaz to my cabinets and it was too much for Aaron to replace the doors with glass fronts. So, just to add a little extra touch I took scrapbook paper and doublesided tape and stuck it to the back of the cabinets. So now when I open the doors to get a dish or glass it is like a little surprising touch of something pretty!

Beautiful Bouquet

I just had to share this picture I found of this bouquet. I think it is so beautiful, I would love to find a way to use this idea without having to get married again!  Maybe an idea for something in my home, on my mantel ... any suggestions?

Transform Stock Cabinets

These are the cabinets in my laundry room and are regular white, pressed board, laminate cabinets from Home Depot. I just couldnt stand it any longer and had to do something to dress them up. So I started with blue and pink craft paint and freehanded a scrolly frame around the edge of each door.

Then for the handles I cut strips of old fabric and wrapped them around the plasic handles and just knotted them to secure it.

Then I hot glued a little metal bird I had gotten at Hobby Lobby a while back onto the front of the cabinet and it just gave the laminate door a little bit of texture and charm.

Hope you like it and maybe it will inspire you to go for it and you can paint on anything!!!!

Newly Decorated laundry Room

A charming "new" door adding a touch of nostalgia. I got it off Craigslist (I have been finding alot of good stuff there lately) and drove an hour north of Atlanta to a junk shop to get it. But it was worth it, we went to eat at Marietta Diner for lunch and I highly recommend it if you are in Marietta on Cobb Parkway, their baklava is to die for!

It's a bit excessive I know, but I am the only one who does the laundry and I wanted it to be very girlie and quaint like maybe I wasn't doing laundry, hmmmm...

Betz White

This Website has the cutest little stuff! I am addicted to her book Sewing Green (like I can sew, my mom has the book and just made 6 aprons). But she is sooo inspirational. I have been scouting every thrift store for wool sweaters and hope to one day make something cute from them like she has. What do you think? Anyone know any other crafters like her to inspire us?

Soooo Cute butterfly!

I love this idea of the butterfly on the back of the chair. I think I want to do it on my dining room chairs all the time! When I do i will let you know how it turns out, anyone else wanna give it a try?
