Blooming Seats

Laurel and I are setting up a space at a arts and craft festival this weekend in Tuscaloosa and I have been busy working on a few new items.

I just finished two Windsor chairs with an appliqué technique of a flower on the seat. One is white with a purple flower on vintage fabric and the other is a cheerful yellow chair with two flowers on a madris plaid base. These are perfect accent chairs that will be a conversation piece in any room. Contact me for further information.

The Storm Before the Calm

Well I always seem to do things a bit backwards. So why would it be any different with my many projects. I showed you a few days ago some pictures of the pieces of furniture Laurel and I got to refinish. I have been busy working on them this week and of course I have picked one of the coldest weeks of the year to occupy my garage and not be able to park my car in it for those cold mornings! Almost finished and then we will move on to the next project. As you can see there is a pile of wood scraps Aaron is waiting for some room to be able to create a few new pieces of upcycled furniture pieces for us. Thanks babe!!!

Vintage Style "Facinator"

Laurel and I went to NC this weekend to visit our mom and HAD to do some "junking" along the way! We stopped at an auction and a few antiques shops and thrift stores. We came home with a few new "project" items.

In all the fun I snapped a shot of Laurel in her new look that might make the Royals jealous!

Teal Blue Dresser

I have another furniture redo to share with you. I know I definitely need to start taking before pictures! I get so excited I just jump right in and forget about the camera, sorry.

This is a small side table type dresser. I painted and distressed it a beautiful teal blue color and covered it in vintage Good Housekeeping and Saturday Evening Post magazine ads. This is the perfect size bedside table or powder room table. The size is 25 1/2" tall, 25 1/2" wide and 14" deep with three drawer, selling for $80. Orange Upcycled Dresser

I found this nice dresser at an estate sale but the top was very damaged, it had several drink ring stains on the top so I decided to refinish it "Junker's Style". I painted it s burnt orange color and decoupages vintage music sheets on the top then covered in polyurethane for protection. Now it is like new and ready for a new home. The dimensions are 40" wide by 19 3/4" deep by 31" tall and has dovetailed drawers. Email me if you are interested in this dresser for your home. Junkersdaughters@yahoo.com

Furniture Upcycle

I recently refinished a dresser for a friend of mine. She had a brown dresser and wanted to "perk" it up a bit so I painted the outside a creamy yellow color and the drawer fronts a burnt orange color. Once the paint was dry I took the sander to it and distressed it a bit. The color was not vintage enough for me so I took some brown paint and rubbed it over it to give it more depth. Once the paint was dry I glued vintage music sheets to the top and outside. I put poly all over the piece to finish it up. I love it and more importantly my friend loves her new dresser too!! Shells Galore!

This summer we too a trip to visit our cousins in Clearwater, FL. It was so much fun with the boys getting to spend time with their cousins like we used to when we were kids, building tents with blankets and sheets over the dining room table. Having their secret fort made everything so exciting, from eating meals under there and briefly spending the night under there (although that didn't last as it got "too scary!")

We spend a few days on the beach and there were a few seashells but finally, on our last overcast day we took the boat out to Caladesi Island and found tons of amazing seashells. The boys cast their nets and found many live creatures, fish, starfish, crabs. It was the best day at the beach ever!

Since I had hit the mother load of seashells and had no time to clean them all properly before we went home, I had to figure out a way to take them home without us passing out from the stench of a rotting, fishy smell because a seven hour trip home in the middle of summer closed up in the car would surely be a recipe for disaster. So I double sealed them in black trash bags and took my precious shells home (I had 3 garbage bags FULL!). It worked the ride home was successful and I moved on to properly cleaning them. I rinsed them in bleach water and layed them out on the back deck to dry for about a week (the cat was so curious about it all and was very perplexed why there was this scrumptious fish smell without anything to taste).

So, from the story you can tell that was about 6 months ago and I have just gotten around to doing something with all those shells.

I started by sorting them into types of shells (oh my aching back!)

Then I took this bust I had gotten a couple years ago that was covered in these ugly corn husks and began gluing. Oh the wonderful things a hot glue gun can do!! It took several days but it is finally finished and I LOVE it!!

Although this took alot of shells I have plenty left, what do you think I should do next? I am thinking furniture or something big and bold, let me know what you think!

Country Living Festival, Stone Mountain, GA

I am looking forward to going to the Country Living Festival Friday with my girlfriends! I am still dreaming and inspired by ideas from the last show that I can't wait to see what new things there will be this year. I am also excited to introduce two of my friends to this show for the first time and I know they are going to love it!!! Got my carry-on bag ready to haul all my "loot" and will keep you posted with my findings!

I am very much looking forward to seeing the "Happy Chair" booth again, their things are amazing, if I had unlimited funds I would definitely buy one of her chairs for every room!! I am also looking forward to watching the glass blower again, his is mesmerizing. Learning to blow glass is definitely one thing on my "Bucket List".

Junker's Daughters at Queen of Hearts

Hi Everyone,

We had a really nice weekend in Gainesville at the Mule Camp Festival. There were so many people if we had a store that we went straight to The Queen of Hearts in Buford on Monday and rented a space. It's all set up and ready for you to come and take a look. The address is 4125 GA Hwy. 20, Buford, right next to Hobby Lobby - and everyone loves Hobby Lobby. Anyway come see our booth we're open Mon-Sat 10-6p and Sunday Noon-6pm.

Mule Camp Success

MULE CAMP MARKET FESTIVAL

DOWNTOWN GAINESVILLE, GA

OCTOBER 7TH, 8TH - 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

The City of Gainesville or Mule Camp Springs as it was once known, hosts this rich Appalachian festival at the foothills of North Georgia Mountains.  This festival showcases various mountain arts and crafts. The family can enjoy mule rides, live music and great food, while the kids enjoy the petting zoo and many other activities.

The City of Gainesville and Hall County welcomed the world in 1996 as a host of the Centennial Olympic Games. Lake Lanier was the site of the Kayak and Towing events, and our area became known as the "Hospitality Capital of the World". Once again, the community and the Gainesville Jaycees wish to show you our hospitality by inviting you to the 2011 Mule Camp Market Festival on the Downtown Square in Gainesville, Georgia.

Busy Working

We have a month until we are doing a big arts and crafts show in Gainesville, Georgia. So we have been very busy making new products for everyone to see and enjoy and buy at the show. We will have everything from furniture, home decor, outdoor decorations and jewelry. So please stay tuned to the dates and times of the show so you can come see us and our newest creations!

Curtain Redo

I took some simple stock curtains from Target and added a ruffle to the edge to give it a little extra touch. I have added just plain fringe to stock curtains before but I wanted to do something different this time.

So, I bought an extra panel and cut it in 5" strips, ran a basting stitch down one edge and pulled the end of the string to create a ruffle.  Once I had all my strips pulled into a ruffle, I sewed them on to the edge of the curtain panels and left the raw edge fringed a bit. I love the texture it adds to the curtains without adding more color. I am sure you could try this with any color curtain at your local "Big Box" store. And if I can do it I know you can too, it is simple!!

This is a picture of my summer look for the mantel, although I have added more shells as the summer has continued and we have collected more from the beach. I love this look and hate for the summer to end, but will keep you posted when I change to my fall look.

Busy Summer

Hi everyone,

We have had a really busy summer, and to think it's halfway done! We've had some rain and it's really been good for our plants. The tomato salad is delicious, the recipe is really easy. Cut your tomatoes in chunks, add a clove of fresh garlic cut in small slivers, about a tablespoon of red wine vinegar, tablespoon of olive oil, salt and pepper to taste, whatever fresh herbs in your garden. I have basil so I added that, I love dill too though. If it's too vinegary sprinkle a little sugar in. Put in fridge to marinate. Really yummy.

Saturday

Whew it was another hot one today. Miguel woke up early and worked in the yard. It looks good and hopefully the mulch he put around the plants will keep some of the moisture in the ground. We have one tiny little lemon on our tree. So, we'll see what happens next.
We went to dinner at one of the Professors houses last night, he was entertaining visiting scholars from China! Well, that brought back memories :) They were curious about the typical American food - hamburgers and hot dogs - and they didn't know what pasta salad was. I must say the food was delicious!
I am noticing that we only have 4 followers. I think this is a great blog site, I may be a bit partial but it's fun to write about what wonderful think happened during the day or be a pit sarcastic about things. Pass this site on to your friends I think they would like it.
